Yes, I really enjoy taking photographs because it lets me capture moments I would otherwise forget. I usually photograph everyday things like food, street scenes and my friends when we go out. These days I mostly use my phone since it's always in my pocket and the quality is surprisingly good, although I sometimes borrow my brother's camera for special trips. I keep nearly all my old photos because they bring back memories. Most of them are stored in the cloud and on my laptop, but I also print my favourites and put them in a small album at home.

I'd like to describe a photograph I took during a hiking trip in the mountains about two years ago. We had started climbing very early in the morning, and by the time we reached a high ridge, the sun was just rising over the valley below. The photograph shows the peaks covered in mist, with golden light spreading across the sky and a tiny figure of my friend standing on a rock in the foreground. As for how I took it, I had been carrying a simple camera all morning, and when I saw the light changing, I quickly knelt down to get a lower angle. I waited a few seconds for the mist to move and then took several shots, choosing the best one later. I'm proud of this photograph for a few reasons. Firstly, the timing was perfect, because that kind of light only lasts for a couple of minutes. Secondly, it reminds me of how exhausted but happy I felt after the climb. Most importantly, when I showed it to my family, they couldn't believe I had taken it myself, and a friend even printed it and hung it on her wall. That recognition made me realise that photography is more than just pressing a button, and it encouraged me to keep improving.

Part 3

  1. Why do you think photography has become such a popular hobby?
  2. Has the rise of smartphones changed the way people take photos?
  3. Do you think people share too many photographs online these days?
  4. Is photography a form of art, in your opinion?

I think photography has become popular mainly because technology has made it so accessible. Almost everyone carries a phone with a decent camera, so people can capture moments instantly without any training. Smartphones have definitely changed things, because they encourage spontaneity and let us edit and share images in seconds, although the quality may suffer. Personally, I do feel people share too many photos online, which can dilute the meaningful ones. As for whether it's an art, I'd say yes, because skilled photographers think carefully about composition, light and emotion, just like painters do with their canvases.
